day 35 in captivity

5 Jun

Disclaimer:  This in NOT Jenna writing this new report (lower your expectations) it’s her mom, Lisa.

Jenna asked if I would update you all, so I will give you a quick review.   First the very GOOD NEWS!  Jenna has neutrophils!  Early this morning lab tests showed she had 350, later this afternoon they are up to 650!   Now if she can keep putting up numbers like these, we will be talking discharge.

One potential problem for getting out of here is that Jenna has been extremely tired and feeling very crummy for about 5 days now.  She has no energy and no appetite.  It’s not for lack of effort that she isn’t eating, but today the doctors suggested  Marinol she took one dose and it seems to have back fired.   Jenna is even more tired and dizzy thus she doesn’t feel like eating.  She could do a commercial for  Scared Straight or “this is your brain on drugs”.  She is not enjoying it.

So she hasn’t been able to celebrate or appreciate the  great news of her high neutrophil count.  Crap.

That’s the latest from St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.  I am sure Jenna will be back soon, and she will have so much more to say.

Thanks to everybody for all the email, facebook notes, prayers, cards, offers to visit etc.  It is much appreciated by Jenna’s family.

You’ve got a heck of a great gal there (not that you don’t know that!).
She’s love by thousands, perhaps millions!
Give her hugs from me – when you can.
    Love to you all,

Love the good news, but hate that Jenna is not able to celebrate as we hoped. Please know your family is in my nightly prayers. Lisa you have a special young daughter who I am pleased to call friend. You raised her well.

I can’t stop thinking about you guys! I almost texted you over the weekend twice Lisa, just cuz! When your nose itches, it is me, thinking of you and Jenna! The number thing is great news, maybe all of those bets flying in did the job! Hopefully she is just zonked out because of the work her body is doing to work through this! Worse then mountain climbing!
Love to both of you! Nice job on the post too by the way!

Glad that your ANC is up! Marinol worked for Ben and I hope it does the trick for you, my dear. Ran my first run with the Leukemia Society’s Team in Training last Saturday. Thought of you and Ben the whole time! Hope you can make a break from that joint (no pun intended) soon. I know they are sticklers for that eathing thing:)

    Love ya.

Hi Lisa and Jenna, Thank you for your frequent updates. They must have been difficult for you to write when things were not going so well and everything seemed like an effort. This journey is certainly one of hills and valleys, but I am sure in the end all will be well. We think of both of you often and hope and pray that you will be filled up with neutrophils! I’m sorry that you aren’t feeling so well these days, who can explain all that goes on when one has such a complicated life saving procedure. We are hanging out here in Denver. Nora’s transplant was put on the “back burner” as here Doc. said. So our three month stay in Denver will now be a series of shorter stays as they try a different treatment plan. Our love to both of you and continued thoughts and prayers for renewed strength, hope and faith. Chris Olson

Oh Jenna, how wonderful…Hooray for neutrophils! I bet your body is just working extra-super-hard right now and putting every effort into getting back to tip-top shape!! You go girl, keep up the great work.

Thanks Lisa for the update.I hope neutrophils bring stength and energy and appetite and hope and…..all good things. Have you tried the Marinol,Lisa? Just trying for a little humor. Prayers are still coming your way. Wish we could do more–be more help. I know this healing just takes time. You are both in our thoughts and prayers every day.
    Keep healing. Be strong.
    Love from New Ulm

Glad to hear things are going ok. Sorry Jenna is feeling poorly but it probably is the body working so hard. Think of you both often-praying for your health.
